Longsun Green Energy, a leading manufacturer of high-quality solar mounting structures, draws attention to a pivotal reassessment of the African solar photovoltaic (PV) market presented in the newly released Africa Solar Outlook 2026 by the Africa Solar Industry Association (AFSIA). The report suggests the continent's installed solar capacity is substantially higher than previous estimates, indicating a market of greater scale and importance for global industry stakeholders.

According to the 2026 Outlook, AFSIA's exclusive operational project data shows Africa reached 23.4 GWp by the end of 2025. In a significant methodological enhancement, the report cross-referenced its figures with China's solar PV export data. This analysis revealed that approximately 58.1 GWp of solar modules have been exported to African nations since 2017. Factoring in estimated pre-2017 exports, the total potential installed capacity could be as high as 63.9 GWp.

This figure suggests the actual solar adoption in Africa might be approximately 2.75 times greater than earlier industry perceptions, including AFSIA's own prior forecasts. The Africa Solar Outlook 2025, for instance, reported 2024 installations at 2.47 GW, a figure revised upward to 3.7 GW in the latest 2026 report, highlighting the challenges in data collection and the evolving understanding of the market.

"The revised data underscores a critical insight: Africa's solar market is not only larger but also growing at one of the fastest rates globally," said a spokesperson for Longsun Green Energy. "This represents a substantial opportunity. For manufacturers like Longsun Green, it emphasizes the need for robust, adaptable mounting solutions that can meet the diverse climatic and infrastructural conditions across the continent."

The report also notes a trend towards local manufacturing within Africa, with several major international companies recently announcing plans for local production facilities. This shift towards localization is expected to further stimulate market growth and sustainability.

Longsun Green Energy remains committed to supporting the global energy transition. With a comprehensive portfolio of solar mounting systems designed for various environments, the company is well-positioned to contribute to the reliable and efficient deployment of solar projects in emerging and high-growth markets like Africa.
