In a significant move to accelerate the clean energy transition in Latin America, the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) has issued a call for renewable energy project proposals from developers across the region. This initiative aims to connect promising projects with vital international financing and partnerships.

According to an official release, proposals submitted by March 1, 2026, will receive priority consideration. The selected projects will gain access to IRENA's dedicated financing platforms: the Climate Investment Platform (CIP) and the Energy Transition Accelerator Financing (ETAF) platform. This strategic effort is designed to support Latin American nations in their decarbonization goals and ensure a just and inclusive energy transition.

Eligible Countries
Project developers from the following 21 Latin American countries are invited to apply: Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

How to Apply and Eligibility Criteria
The application process is managed through two distinct platforms, each with specific criteria:

Climate Investment Platform (CIP): A joint initiative by IRENA, UNDP, and Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), in collaboration with the Green Climate Fund (GCF). The CIP focuses on enhancing capital mobilization for developing countries.

Eligibility: Projects must support clean energy transitions and national climate priorities. They should be beyond the concept stage, with pre-feasibility or initial studies already completed.

Submission: Interested parties can submit their projects via the official CIP portal: https://www.irena.org/Energy-Transition/Partnerships/CIP

Energy Transition Accelerator Financing (ETAF) Platform: Managed by IRENA, the ETAF platform brings together 14 global financing and risk mitigation partners with a collective commitment of $4 billion. It offers a range of financial instruments for bankable, medium-to-large scale renewable energy projects.

Eligibility: Projects must meet specific investment thresholds, with capital expenditure requirements of at least $25 million for private or public-private partnership (PPP) projects and $10 million for public sector projects. They must also demonstrate a high level of readiness, including completed feasibility studies, evidence of grid availability, and power purchase agreements (PPAs).

Submission: Project details can be submitted through the ETAF platform portal: https://etafplatform.org/Submit-your-project

This call for proposals presents a valuable opportunity for project developers in Latin America to secure the necessary funding and partnerships to bring their renewable energy initiatives to life.
