Meta Expands US Solar Footprint with 1.4 GW Portfolio Under Development

Tech giant Meta continues to scale up its renewable energy procurement through an expanded partnership with Zelestra. The two companies have signed a new power purchase agreement (PPA) for the 180 MW Palmera Solar Plant in Freestone County, Texas.

This latest project adds to a growing pipeline of Meta-backed solar farms. Zelestra is already advancing work on the 176 MW Skull Creek Solar Plant in Anderson County, Texas, and the 200 MW Reclamation Solar Project in Gibson County, Indiana.

Together, the Skull Creek and Reclamation projects are expected to support approximately 400 construction jobs at peak periods. They will join the 81 MW Jasper County Solar Project in Indiana, which recently began operations as the first completed project under this collaboration.

In total, Meta and Zelestra have now secured agreements covering roughly 1.4 GW of solar capacity across eight US projects. All are scheduled to reach commercial operation by 2028.

The Skull Creek project in Texas is projected to generate around 200 jobs during peak construction and contribute an estimated $8.2 million to the local economy in Anderson County. The solar farm will incorporate approximately 400,000 bifacial solar panels, with McCarthy Building Companies serving as the lead EPC contractor.

The Reclamation Solar Project in Indiana is being developed on previously mined land. It is expected to create roughly 200 jobs at peak construction and feature about 325,000 US-made bifacial solar modules. Zelestra has noted that the Indiana project will also prioritize soil restoration, native vegetation, and local biodiversity improvements. Qcells will supply both the solar modules and EPC services for this facility.

These projects are designed to address rising electricity demand from hyperscalers and large corporate buyers such as Meta.
