A consortium led by JCM Power, a Canadian renewable energy developer active across Asia and Africa, has been selected to build a 30-MW solar park in Mozambique-marking the company's debut in the country's energy sector.
The project was awarded under Mozambique's Renewable Energy Auctions Promotion Programme (PROLER), as confirmed by the African Energy Council on Thursday.
The Manje solar park will be situated in Tete Province, in the northwestern part of Mozambique. Under the agreement, JCM Power will oversee financing, engineering, construction, operations, and maintenance of the PV facility, drawing on its prior experience developing similar projects in neighboring Malawi.
This development aligns with Mozambique's broader strategy to attract private capital into its renewable energy sector, with the dual aim of boosting solar generation and expanding electricity access nationwide. The country has set ambitious targets: achieving universal electricity access by 2030 and reaching 6 GW of installed renewable capacity by 2032. The PROLER program, supported by the European Union via the French development agency AFD, is designed to facilitate the deployment of 120 MW of renewable energy capacity.
