Brighton and Hove Energy Services Co-operative (BHESCo) has successfully closed its 2026 Share Offer, raising £150,000 from local residents to fund renewable energy initiatives across Sussex.
Since its founding in 2013, the not-for-profit co-operative has completed 67 community-owned energy projects. The latest funding round, which required a minimum investment of £500 per participant, will support the immediate deployment of new clean energy schemes in the region.
The share offer has already delivered tangible results. A 37-kW in-roof solar array was installed at Dyke Golf Club, following a smaller system on the club's maintenance shed in 2017. The new installation is projected to generate substantial long-term electricity savings for the facility.
In addition, ten homes in Preston Park have received solar panel and battery storage packages as part of an initiative aimed at establishing Brighton's first community microgrid. The programme offered residents no-upfront-cost installations, encouraging broader participation in the local energy transition.
The Preston Park project launched with a campaign urging homeowners to sign up for solar and battery systems without initial capital outlay, lowering barriers to clean energy adoption.
BHESCo is now planning its next phase of community energy projects and is calling on organisations and homeowners across Sussex to explore opportunities to benefit from clean energy solutions.
