Matrix Renewables and SOLV Energy Begin Construction on 457MW Solar Project in Texas
The US solar market continues its rapid expansion as independent power producer (IPP) Matrix Renewables and EPC contractor SOLV Energy have broken ground on the Tormes Solar Project in Navarro County, Texas. The utility-scale facility has a direct current capacity of 457MW.
Located roughly two miles southeast of Barry and west of Corsicana, this project represents a total investment exceeding US$750 million in renewable energy infrastructure. During the construction phase, Tormes Solar is expected to generate approximately 450 local and regional jobs. Once operational, the facility will supply power to the Texas grid while providing long-term tax revenue and landowner income for Navarro County.
This marks the second collaboration between Matrix Renewables and SOLV Energy in Texas. Their first joint effort, the 284MWdc Stillhouse Solar project in Bell County, was successfully commissioned in November 2025. SOLV Energy will serve as the EPC contractor for the Tormes project, leveraging its extensive experience in utility-scale solar construction across the United States.
Matrix Renewables currently owns and operates or develops more than 8.7GW of projects across multiple US markets, including ERCOT, AISO, MISO, WECC, and SPP.
Texas Solar Market Continues to Surge
The Tormes Solar Project further solidifies Texas's position as the fastest-growing solar market in the United States and the second-largest state for installed solar capacity. According to recent data from the US Energy Information Administration (EIA), utility-scale solar generation within the ERCOT grid is projected to reach 78 billion kilowatt-hours in 2026. This would surpass coal generation, which is expected to produce 60 billion kilowatt-hours, marking a historic milestone.
Texas is expected to account for approximately 40% of total US solar capacity additions in 2026, with around 11GW of new utility-scale PV anticipated in the state this year alone.|
