The U.S. solar market demonstrated significant resilience and growth in the third quarter of 2025, according to the latest quarterly report published by the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) and Wood Mackenzie. Longsun Green Energy, a leading manufacturer of high-quality solar mounting systems, highlights key trends from the report to keep our partners and stakeholders informed.
The report indicates that approximately 11.7 gigawatts (GW) of new solar capacity came online in Q3 2025, marking it as one of the strongest quarters on record. This surge brought the total installed capacity for the first nine months of the year to over 30GW. Solar energy dominated new power generation additions, accounting for 58% of all new capacity integrated into the U.S. grid during the quarter.
This performance represents a notable recovery from the previous quarter, where installations had moderated. The utility-scale segment was the primary driver, contributing 9.7GW of new capacity-a 68% increase from Q2 2025. States including California, Texas, and Utah each added over 1GW of utility-scale solar. The commercial solar segment also saw year-on-year growth, while the residential and community solar markets experienced mixed results.

Despite this strong quarterly showing, the industry continues to navigate challenges. The report notes that regulatory and permitting processes for large-scale projects create ongoing uncertainty, affecting long-term deployment forecasts. SEIA and Wood Mackenzie maintain their earlier projection for utility-scale solar through 2030, which anticipates cumulative capacity being approximately 55GW lower than initial expectations due to these headwinds.
On the manufacturing front, the U.S. upstream sector saw expansion with new module production facilities commencing operations. This adds to the growing domestic manufacturing base for solar components.
At Longsun Green Energy, we are committed to supporting the global energy transition through innovative and reliable solar mounting solutions. Understanding market dynamics is crucial as we collaborate with developers and EPCs to build sustainable solar projects worldwide.
