Tunisia has commissioned four photovoltaic solar power plants in the southeastern province of Medenine. Each plant has a capacity of 2 MW.

According to Tunis Afrique Presse, the total investment for the four projects amounts to USD 5.5 million.

Once fully operational, the new solar plants are expected to cut annual electricity generation costs by approximately USD 518,000 and reduce natural gas imports by about USD 1.5 million per year.

These projects are part of Tunisia's national energy strategy, which targets raising the share of renewable energy in the country's electricity mix to 35% by 2030 and 50% by 2035.

State Secretary for Energy Transition, Wael Chouchane, noted that the new plants will help improve the region's energy structure, support economic and social development, ensure stable energy supply, and contribute to grid modernization in response to climate challenges.
