In a significant move to promote residential renewable energy adoption, Italy has officially extended its home renovation tax credit (Bonus Ristrutturazione), which includes photovoltaic (PV) and energy storage systems, through 2026. This policy extension, confirmed in the government's draft budget law, offers a substantial incentive for households investing in clean energy, reinforcing the country's commitment to a sustainable future.
According to the guidelines from the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance, families installing solar panels and battery storage systems on their primary residences can benefit from a 50% tax deduction on the associated costs. This initiative is designed not only to provide immediate financial relief but also to help homeowners reduce long-term electricity expenses, enhance their energy self-sufficiency, and increase property sustainability.
The tax deduction applies to eligible expenses up to a maximum of €96,000. For a primary residence, 50% of the expenditure can be deducted, leading to a maximum credit of €48,000. For secondary or other properties, the deduction rate is 36%, with a maximum credit of €34,560. The total deduction amount will be spread evenly over ten years.
To qualify, payments must be made via traceable bank transfers, supported by formal invoices and fiscal receipts. While the PV and storage system installation can be part of broader renovation works, the costs must be itemized separately in the accounts to ensure accurate tax reporting.

This policy is available to a wide range of individuals, including homeowners, tenants with usage rights, cooperative members, and even some corporate taxpayers. Eligible projects encompass various upgrades, from electrical system overhauls and window replacements to the installation of solar PV arrays and energy storage units. It's important to note that if a single expense qualifies for multiple incentive categories, only one deduction type can be applied.
"As a manufacturer dedicated to providing high-quality solar mounting solutions worldwide, Longsun Green Energy views such policies as crucial drivers for the global solar industry," said a company spokesperson. "Italy's extended tax credit scheme creates a favorable environment for homeowners to embrace solar energy, aligning with our mission to facilitate the transition to renewable energy through reliable and accessible products."
This development in Italy represents a promising opportunity for the solar sector, encouraging greater investment in residential solar and storage solutions.
